I have worked with accountants across the U.S since 1980.Current database contains thousands of buyers and sellers in most major markets.
  Buyers have a unique opportunity in seeking acquisitions because of the huge numbers of accounting firms changing ownership in the next few years.The mass retirement of the baby boom generation  has already begun. Some estimates are 75% of accountants will retire in the next 10 years representing 49000 firms that will experience ownership changes. This is an unprecedented opportunity for practititioners to expand their accounting firms.
Buyers:
  As a buyer one must recognize this expansion area and maximize the available opportunities. Additionally overall value of accounting practices may increase as there will be many less firms in practice causing an increase in fees.
  Sellers:: As a seller changing market conditions call for creative exit srategies and advanced planning to protect the firm's value and to realize a price comparable to historic price levels. On average most accounting firm's sell for one time the firms annual gross. With all small businesses also experiencing rapid owner retirement, forward lookig accountants will be wise to find a qualified buyer and work in transition a period of time to ensure retention of existing clients thus adding value to the practice.

Lowest possible fees are a rip off!

Most business owners understand the old saying "you get what you pay for".However in today's competitive environment many see only the bottom line, Furthermore many accountants thinking they are taking the high ground will give the client doubts as to the fairness of the fees by a attitude that fosters this communication problem .
  This may work for some time but this approach may generate high fees for the short term and also be in the best interest of the client(all needed requirements completed) but the first low ball estimate from the competition and revenue is lost forever.
  To protect your client from this the best approach is to make sure your client understands the difference between quality service and something inadequate yet inexpensive.Many accountants avoid this conversation with clients wary of getting negative feedback from the client but it's a conversation that must be undertaken and will save the accountant revenue and provide the client with the best value. Inadequate service at low ball prices is quite simply a rip off .

Note: the above link is provided as an example of generic type marketing pitches for accountants.I really believe accountants marketing has specific characteristics that these so called secret underground methods are just useless information peddling.

As the biblical writer opined: "there is nothing new under the sun".I have found with marketing,especially with accountants marketing strategies,there are no magic bullets. I have worked full time for accounting professionals, providing marketing assistance, and have found that basic marketing approaches are still the best way to
expand an accounting practice. Methods I have used are not secret or game changing. Expanding an accounting practice by acquisition or merger(my favorite)is far and above the tried and true method of building a large practice. In addition, I have found a few techniques that will consistently produce new business accounting and tax clients month after month with measurable results In analyzing real results over 20 years I can tell you the old tried and true methods are still the most cost effective strategy. Internet marketers have their niche and expertise but real results are one on one situations in that market. Few new accounting clients will contact their accountant by searching the internet. And of course accountants wishing to sell their practice will not use the internet to contact potential buyer.

In summary, I have found real results are obtained through direct contacts and good old fashioned salesmanship. With the internet what sounds to good to be true is probably
a slick pitch for a large sum of money. I have listed the above post as an example of a link I found for accountants marketing services. Basically a generic marketing pitch with typical internet puffing.

Some people have blogs to promote their business. I simply use it to vent my frustration with the enormous amount of useless information the internet offers for accountants marketing. I normally research accountants marketing service daily and add some comments.I Hope I found a blogger to disagree with my assumptions concerning accountants marketing but the pie in the sky con men will have no such contact with someone who really understands accountants marketing.
